About the Author Educated at St. Johns College, Panadura and University College Colombo, Henry P. Abeyasekera started his working life as a school teacher, in 1934. He Was in the first batch of Divisional Revenue Officers recruited in 1939. He served in the Low Country area for a period of twenty-two years. In 1958 he was selected for inclusion in the nucleus of government officers which was made responsible to organise the nationalisation of the Colombo port and the formation of the Port (Cargo) Corporation. Here he served as Commercial Manager for eleven years. While in the Port, he produced a news paper for Port workers entitled Our Port. He revived the issue of the Port Handbook which had lapsed for several years and produced new look Hand Books for 1967 and 1968. He contributed articles to the Press on matters affecting the Port and to the magazine of the International Cargo Handling Corporation Association (ICHCA). Awarded an UN Fellowship in Ports and Shipping in 1964, he studied port work in most of the major ports of the world. On his return he pressed upon the authorities to commence handling of Containers in the Port at QEQ. However, this was begun with onboard equipment, only in 1972.He was appointed as General Manager of the National Textile Corporation in 1969 and resigned therefrom in 1970.In March 1973, he was appointed to the Panel of the Industrial Oe?urt. He has been serving on this Panel continuously now for over ??twenty five years. In his retirement he has taken to free lance journalism and contributes frequently to the Press on matters of Public interest. Last year he authored the book Romantic Muthurajawela which has already seen its revised 3rd edition. He is eighty six years of age.
