Long before Western Music was introduced to the general education in Sri Lanka, there were foreign institutions such as Trinity College of Music London established in 1882 and, Royal School of Music London in 1898, conducted graded Western Music Examinations for this purpose examiners came from London. However in the early 1950s oriental music was in progress in schools. This book gives a clear description how all barriers were cleared and how Western Music was taken to all corners of the country by the author. The Ministry of Education supported her and the Government of Japan provided all equipment under the cultural grant approximately Rs. 54 million worth equipment.
